Edward Murphy – Watercolour Artist

Originally from Liverpool, England , Ed immigrated to Canada in 1965.
Educated in England and Canada he holds postgraduate degrees in Chemistry and Public Administration.

The natural environment and fauna have always been a specific interest. Fostered by a range of outdoor activities such as hiking , climbing, camping and canoeing , this strong affection has been sustained by extensive travels throughout Canada, including the Arctic and Yukon , U.S.A, Alaska, Peru, Europe, Finland, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand .

Early sketching of portraits and wildlife developed into watercolour painting. Initially motivated by the works of Edward Lear, Audubon, Landsdowne, and Ted Kitchen, subsequently, the skills of many have been studied as an aid to self taught watercolour techniques.

“ Painting is always a challenge ! Rewarding when the end results are pleasing, but at times the process is frustrating and I chafe at the limitations of my skills.”
It is better then to take the advice of Wordsworth:

“Enough of Science and of Art,
Close up those barren leaves
Come forth and bring with you a heart
That watches and receives”.
